Coming soon – MusicEL for Schools

These are uncertain times for schools, with the government’s evolving response to Covid-19. As solutions emerge about managing education with social distancing in schools (for the foreseeable future), Cornwall Music Service Trust is using its online platform – MusicEL – to offer ways of accessing music education with blended learning, and purely online.

What will a MusicEL subscription for schools provide?

Access to courses tailored for schools

Blended learning or online courses in:

  • First Access – whole class instrumental learning
  • Wellbeing – courses for KS2 and KS3 students designed for use in assemblies or tutor time.

Curriculum Resources

Courses for primary: music curriculum resources (with some examples below).

Courses for secondary: coming soon – BTEC music technology, composition and song-writing, and ensembles for GCSE.

Blended Learning – combining resources with live work.

Online Resources

With online courses available between sessions with a Cornwall Music Service Trust (CMST) teacher, you can use the resources in new ways.

For example with first access whole-class instrumental learning, the CMST teacher can help with on-the-job training so school teachers are confident to deliver the same courses (or follow on courses) themselves with other classes, even after the CMST teacher has finished.

In person or live video sessions

Where allowed, in person delivery of sessions by a Cornwall Music Service Trust teacher allows the best student experience, and supports the school in upskilling staff with on-the-job CPD.

Where circumstances don’t allow this, CMST teachers can have live sessions with a “virtual” presence in schools and lead sessions alongside the school teacher. We’ve found Zoom works well but can work with other software too!

Sample primary music curriculum resources

Below you can find a selection of resources CMST made available to schools during the lockdowns. MusicEL courses put these together in a format that adds videos, activities, guidance, and supporting materials.

These work alongside and complement other resources you may have access to, such as Charanga.
